Blueberry Dream

Project Details: We were engaged by the client to paint the siding, but the condition of the wood panels would not hold the paint. We decided to remove the existing wood siding and replace it with a vinyl board and batten and a touch of vinyl shake on the front gable. New vinyl soffits were installed on the entire house as well. We replaced all of the trim at the eaves and gables with rough cedar for a more textured look. We then defined the edges with a better-looking/performing 6" gutter to manage the water flow better.

Two layers of asphalt shingles and one layer of wood shake were removed from the roof surface. We installed OSB over top of the rafter's new roof accessories on the entire system and topped it off with a GAF HDZ Colonial Slate shingle.

The colors are vibrant on this property and play outside the neutral base. Everything we see here is complimentary, making this house stand out from the rest.

Challenges:  When we decided to remove and replace the siding, we were at risk of exposing more issues underneath the existing siding panel; this was the case. Several structural components were dry rotted and needed to be replaced. 60% of the house required OSB to be installed over the existing framework before the siding was installed. The roof gables were also sagging, which needed to be pulled up so that the ridges remain on the same plane along the entire length. Much of the trim around the windows and doors were compromised by bugs and moisture.

These potential challenges must always be discussed before any work continues to protect both the customer and the contractor. There is nothing worse than being neck-deep in a project than running into an issue that will break the budget. Transparency is critical to meet the expectation.
